Editorial Spec Audit
In-Depth Review: Xteink X4 / NXT E-Ink (Fact-Check)
Marketplace Fact-Check & Buyer Alert: The device widely referred to as the "NXT E-Ink X4" or "Xteink X4" is a palm-sized electronic paper (E-Ink) pocket reader and developer gadget—NOT a commercial 4G LTE cellular mobile phone. Online catalog scrapers frequently miscategorize it alongside dumbphones, causing buyer confusion.
Design & Build Quality
Measuring approximately 115 x 52 x 10 mm and weighing around 85 grams, the Xteink X4 features a tiny 2.1-inch monochrome E-Ink screen and tactile directional buttons. It is popular among hardware enthusiasts as a secondary reading companion or a magnetically mounted pocket reader on the back of another device.
Operating System & Focus Tools
It runs lightweight embedded firmware designed for text files, notes, and e-book reading. It has no web browser, no Android framework, and zero social media feeds.
Battery & Charging Speeds
Its ultra-low-power E-Ink screen and efficient microcontroller allow its small battery to last 5 to 7 days on standard reading usage.
Carrier Compatibility & Frequencies
Important: The device possesses NO cellular baseband modem, NO SIM card slot, and NO FCC VoLTE certification for Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile. It CANNOT make or receive standard telephone calls or SMS messages.
Who Should Buy It (Verdict)
If you are looking for an ultra-compact pocket E-Ink companion for offline reading, the Xteink X4 is an interesting niche gadget. However, if you need a true minimalist phone that makes phone calls on US carriers, look instead to the Mudita Kompakt or Bigme HiBreak.
The Good
Ultra-portable, pocket-sized E-Ink reading companion with zero eye strain and long battery life.
The Catch
Marketplace confusion: This is NOT a cellular phone. It has no SIM slot and cannot make or receive phone calls.
